Microsoft sent me a notice that, as of January 2023, they'll cease providing updates for my 2013 Core i7 laptop equipped with Windows 8.1. The unit had cosmetic problems too and it was time to replace it.I'm always using the computer for all kinds of things. I even added a little gaming in the last year. So I bought a Core i9, and its video capabilities have not disappointed. The difference was immediately noticeable with much richer textures and more realistic colors. It's nice to have a full, user-friendly, alpha-numeric keyboard layout. They keys themselves have a nice "feel" on the fingers, better than on just average laptops--certainly better than my previous unit. The wider letters and numbers are easy to see with that really cool rainbow-wave backlight--it's REALLY cool. The icon keys are not as easy to see, interestingly, nor are the F? keys. The lights are actually really easy on the eyes. It makes for a very visually welcoming unit.I don't like that it comes with only 2 USB ports. That then forces you to get a USB tree. But then that requires more wire inputs. The more wires, the more malfunction of loose wires and cables and faulty connections. That's exactly a problem I'm having right now trying to keep my phone hooked up to my computer to improve the wireless signal with a wired signal. But, every now and then, the wire disconnects and reconnects and ya hear that chime that gets annoying only because ya know it's a loose connection. Also, as a lefty, and someone who knows we who are left-handed are a growing minority, I really dislike that those 2 USB ports are on the left, where I would normally put my mousepad, since I also use a full mouse rather than the not-as-comfortable finger pad.If you value your privacy, be warned of how much spyware and easy-to-disable Microsoft spy switches you'll have to disable in Windows 11 to get to where you feel like you've reasserted some control over your own unit. I found many do-it-yourself videos that showed me how to patch the holes even better than that too. You do NOT need a Microsoft Account to operate it, as those videos will teach you in 5 minutes. Keep this in mind as you're unpacking and getting started. Watch those videos so that FROM THE START, you can dodge Microsoft COMPLETELY. You can also disable their proprietary web browser, Microsoft Edge, though with care not to harm your operating system by going TOO far. The solutions offered render it harmless, even if not fully wiped off your drive, to be clear.Once you've eliminated all the adware and spyware; and once you've installed all the programs you prefer, you'll love it. This unit has worked like a dream so far. I've only owned it about a week, but I've loved how well it has performed.great upgrade from what I had. The speed is great.Great quality, great experience. It’s worth itSo far the product is exactly as was advertised and arrived in quick order. No ill to speak of!
