I've been traveling with the same backpack for nearly 20 years, flying up to 4 times a year. Though I've had to repair the shoulder straps--reinforcing their stitching to the bag--that backpack as earned my deep respect. It has also raised the bar for the replacement I received today, ordered to retire my proud old bag to a respectful place on a shelf.My hopes for this new backpack were high, but my expectations were reasonably low. The features advertised made it an attractive step up to current tech and I would be happy if it lasted even a quarter as long as the one it's replacing. HOWEVER, after careful inspection I'm convinced this new backpack is built to take the punishment my travels can dish out! The outside material feels rugged and rubberized to be water resistant. I am impressed by the reinforced back pad that will prevent my laptop and other backpack contents from digging into my back when stowed in the pack. This was definitely a problem with my old backpack. The new pack's shoulder straps are reinforced in the manner I would have designed myself--with a 2-inch stitched seam at both ends--the bottom seam widened to make it so. This is brilliant, and reflects the overall exceptional quality of construction.I am very much looking forward to being able to stow a high capacity battery brick inside the backpack, connected to a yolk that powers the easy-access connection panel on the outside for one USB A and one USB C connection. What an improvement over having to root around while cramped in my airline seat to locate my battery which would, invariably, have fallen to the bottom of my old backpack. The five outside pockets provide accessory organization--for phone, cables, water bottle, etc.--to make reaching such during travel less of a hassle. There's no dedicated pen holder on the outside but this function is covered inside by a zippered pen case, which is actually more versatile for most purposes. The interior is sumptuously lined with padded silvery gray nylon and includes 5 additional sectioned pouches, one designed for a laptop and another for charging adapter, batteries, tablet, etc. There's room for books, clothing, snacks; but even after packing it full it should have no problem meeting the size requirements for the "free" personal bag which all-too-often airlines use as "gatebait" to add to their revenue stream. Would that every traveler could hook up with a backpack as user friendly as this!
